What is an RDA vape tank?
RDA’s are advanced vape tanks that include rebuildable atomiser coils that a user applies e-liquid to. To do this, they drip vape juice directly onto the coil. As this method is so immediate, any hit uses a large amount of e-liquid, so the tank will need to be refilled frequently. A vape user will use an RDA tank to achieve greater control over their vape, more intense flavour and larger clouds. These atomisers work best with mech mods and offer the highest level of customisation possible with a vape kit.
Unlike RTA’s, RDA’s do not contain a tank, meaning that there is nowhere to house your e-liquid when you are not using it. Instead, they feature an e-liquid well beneath the atomiser coil. This is where you will drip your e-liquid, and you will need to use all of your e-liquid during every session to avoid leakage.
Components of an RDA
Numerous components combine to make up a rebuildable dripping atomiser. These are:
- Drip Tip:
Vape users sometimes call it a mouthpiece – the drip tip is the part of the tank that you put into your mouth and use to inhale. Diameters of drip tips vary from narrow bore to wide bore. - Cap
The cap is essentially the lid to your RDA. You need to unscrew this to access the slots through which you will feed your coils. - Posts
Posts connect to the pin on the bottom of the atomizer. Many post configurations exist, and postless atomizers feature no posts at all. - Build Deck
The build deck will contain the RDA tank’s posts. - Juice Well
The juice well is where you will drip your e-liquid which will be converted to vapour. Juice wells can vary in size. - Coil
The component that heats to vaporise your e-liquid. Many coil configurations exist in RDA tanks, including single-coil, double-coil and more. - Wick
The wick is the wicking material that is saturated in e-liquid. Most often, this material is cotton.
Why should I use an RDA?
Simply put, by dripping your e-liquid directly, it will taste better, as the vapour does not to travel as far to reach your mouth. Additionally, as you have to refill so frequently, you do not need to wait until you have finished your whole tank of e-liquid before trying a new flavour. In this way, you can try numerous types of vape juice in a short space of time.
What is an RTA vape tank?
Unlike RDAs, RTAs and RDTAs (rebuildable dripping tank atomisers) contain built-in or tanks in which e-liquid sits and feeds directly to the coil. These tanks are commonly made from Pyrex glass. Visually, they bear many similarities to regular tanks. The main difference, however, is that RTA’s include a deck, which is where your building will take place.
Components of an RTA
Similar to RDA tanks, various components are included in the makeup of a rebuildable tank atomiser. These are:
- Drip Tip:
The drip tip is the piece that you put into your mouth and use to inhale. They are often plastic, as it acts as an insulator. - Cap
The cap is essentially your RTA’s lid. You will need to remove this to fill your tank with e-liquid. - Chimney
The chimney screws into the top of the chamber. Vapour will travel up the glass tube, inside the chimney, to reach the mouthpiece. - Glass Tube
The glass tube connects the build deck to the RTA’s top section, and is the route that vapour will take to reach your mouth. - Chamber
The chamber contains holes that allow the e-liquid to flow to the wick. - Deck
You will find the wick, which will be saturated by e-liquid, in the deck. - Base
The base of your RDA tank will contain airflow holes. Through these holes, air will reach the coil, speeding up the heating process.
Why should I use an RTA?
The clear benefit of using an RTA tank over an RDA is that it contains a tank that can be continuously filled with e-juice. Not only does this mean that you can leave e-liquid in your device when you are not using it, but it is also capable of holding significantly more vape juice than juice wells that you will find in an RDA. This will mean that you will spend less time refilling, and more time vaping.
