When vapes first hit the market, their coils were basically lengths of resistance wire wrapped around wicking material soaked with e-liquid. While those coils remain popular, this important component has also seen exciting evolution over the past few years.

Mesh coils’ unique design offers enhanced flavour and vapour production while overcoming some of the drawbacks of traditional coils. The single wire of traditional coils tends to wear out quickly due to the amount of power needed for good cloud production. The wire also doesn’t always make even contact with the ticking material, which can cause spitting, hot spots, and the VG in e-liquid to congeal.

Unlike traditional single coils, mesh coils for vapes are made from a thin strip of metal mesh. This design allows the current to pass through the coil more evenly while the coil surface area makes contact with more of the e-liquid. The result is a smoother, more consistent vaping experience with rich, flavourful clouds and fewer dry hits. These coils also take longer to burn out than single coils.

Another benefit of mesh vape coils is that they require less battery power to produce the same amount of vapour as you would get from a single coil. For example, a mesh coil needs only 50W of power to produce the same level of flavour and vapour as you would get by passing 80 to 100W through a single coil. This means extended battery and coil life for your vape.

Offering enhancements in terms of flavour and cloud production, mesh vape coils are an important step in the evolution of the vaping experience. Find high quality mesh coils for your vapes here at LOV. Browse our vape coils page for many more great products.

Mesh Coils Frequently Asked Questions

What does priming a mesh coil for vapes mean?

Priming a mesh coil is when you give the e-liquid enough time to saturate the wicking material in the coil fully. It’s important to do this, as it prevents the wicking material from burning and producing a dry hit when you activate your vape. Ensure you always prime your new coils with e-liquid before inserting them into your tank. After you’ve put the coil into the tank, top it up with e-liquid and allow it to rest for five to 10 minutes before using it.

When it’s time to fire your mod, start lower than the recommended wattage range for the first few hits to break in your new mesh coil. For example, if your new coil has a recommended wattage range of 60 to 80W, start at 40W and increase it gradually.

How long do mesh coils last?

How long your mesh coils last depends on your vaping habits. If you’re a casual or irregular vaper, you might need to replace your coil once a month. If you vape regularly but not heavily, you might need to replace your coil once every two weeks. However, if you vape heavily every day, you might need to replace your coil every few days.

Which e-liquids should I use in a mesh coil vape?

Initially, high VG e-liquids were used almost exclusively in mesh coil vapes for DTL vaping. However, the arrival of MTL coils made with mesh makes it possible to use e-liquids with nicotine salts or a 50:50 VG:PG ratio. Use the following clues if you can’t find an e-liquid recommendation on a mesh coil product page:

  • DTL coils work best with higher VG vape juice, and MTL coils work best with 50:50 and nicotine salt vape juice.
  • Low resistance (sub-ohm) coils work best with high VG e-liquids, and high resistance (plus ohm) coils work best with 50:50 and nicotine salt e-liquids.
  • Coils designed to work with high wattages usually work best with high VG e-liquids, and coils designed to work at lower wattages work best with higher PG e-liquids.
