It depends on your battery’s CDR. As a worked example: a fully charged 18650 cell sits at around 4.2V. If your coil build is 0.15 ohm, the current draw is 4.2 divided by 0.15, which equals 28 amps. Tube mods tend to suit tighter single-coil builds, while box mech mods give more flexibility for dual-coil RDA setups with lower overall resistance.

RDAs (rebuildable dripping atomisers) are the most common pairing for mech mods. They are simple, have minimal airflow restriction and let you control your coil build entirely. If you are using a hybrid mech mod with a direct 510 connection, check that your RDA’s centre pin protrudes correctly. A flush or recessed pin on a hybrid connection is a genuine safety hazard. Thermal runaway happens when a battery cell is pushed beyond its safe limits, overheats and enters an uncontrollable discharge cycle. On a mech mod, the absence of overcharge protection and short-circuit cutoffs means a shorted coil or a cell pushed past its CDR can trigger this. Avoid it by always checking coil resistance before firing, never using a battery with a CDR below your calculated current draw, inspecting wraps for damage before every use and not leaving a battery in a mech mod when it is stored. Clean the battery contacts and threading periodically to prevent resistance buildup, which reduces power delivery and can cause inconsistent firing.
