Flatwire UK is a British manufacturer with a reputation that carries real weight in the coil building community. Their wire is produced using a proprietary flattening process that sets it apart from standard round wire. Where round wire contacts the cotton wick at a single point, flat wire makes contact across a broader surface, delivering more even heat distribution, sharper flavour and consistently denser vapour production.
The range covers everything a serious builder needs: Nichrome 80, Stainless Steel 316L, Flat Sixty and Flapton blends, in gauges from 19g through 25g. Whether you build on an RDA, an RTA or a mechanical mod, there is a Flatwire UK option suited to your deck. We carry genuine, UK-supplied stock across the full range so you can order with confidence and get building.
Flatwire UK built their reputation on a single but significant engineering principle: more surface area equals better performance. Their proprietary flattening process produces wire with greater contact width than round alternatives, which translates directly into faster, more even heat distribution and noticeably improved flavour at the coil.
We’ve run the Ni80 21g on a dual coil RDA build and it hits resistance targets cleanly at around 0.12Ω. The Flat Sixty is our go-to when we want a touch more resistance without sacrificing surface area. That combination of domestic manufacturing, genuine material quality and a range broad enough to cover every build style is what keeps builders coming back.

Our Flatwire UK collection covers every wire alloy and gauge the brand produces, so you can find exactly what your build needs without hunting across multiple sites.
Nichrome 80 is where most builders start with flat wire, and for good reason. Ni80 offers fast ramp-up times and low resistance, making it ideal for wattage mode builds on regulated mods and mechanical devices. Available in 19g, 21g and 25g, the range covers single and dual coil configurations comfortably.
The 19g is stiffer to work with but produces very low resistance builds capable of significant vapour output. The 21g is the most popular all-rounder, and for good reason – it wraps cleanly on a 3mm mandrel without being difficult to shape. Resistance per wrap lands comfortably in sub-ohm territory across all three gauges.
SS316L is the alloy to reach for if you use temperature control mode. It performs cleanly in both wattage and TC mode, which gives it more day-to-day versatility than Ni80. Available in 20g, 21g, 22g and 24g, it’s easy to shape, holds its form well after wrapping and produces consistent resistance readings across a coil.
If you build on a regulated mod with TC capability and want one wire that covers both modes, SS316L is the practical choice. See our guide to temperature control vaping for more on how TC mode works in practice.
Flat Sixty is a Flatwire UK proprietary blend that sits between the performance of Ni80 and the versatility of SS316L. Available in 22g and 25g, it’s well suited to builders who want reliable resistance targets and rich vapour output without the stiffness of heavier Ni80 gauges.
The 25g is particularly useful for higher resistance builds where battery efficiency matters. If you’re building for flavour over raw cloud output, Flat Sixty is worth running alongside your usual alloy as a comparison.
Flapton is a specific wire construction, not just a flat alloy. A Flapton wire combines a flat core with a thinner round wire wrapped around it – the same concept as a Clapton, but built around a flat rather than round core. This adds surface area on top of what flat wire already provides.
The result is significantly more flavour complexity than standard flat wire, along with a slightly slower ramp-up due to the increased mass. Available in Kanthal 24/32, SS316L and Ni80 22/38 variants. This is advanced build wire and not a starting point for new builders, but anyone already comfortable with flat wire will notice the difference immediately.
Flatwire UK products pair naturally with quality coil building tools and organic cotton. If you need wire cutters, ceramic tweezers or coil jigs to go with your build, browse our vape tools range or pick up wicking cotton from our vape cotton category.
The right choice depends on your mod type, your preferred build style and whether you use temperature control. Here’s a practical breakdown.
Ni80 is the go-to. Fast ramp-up, low resistance and a well-understood performance curve make it the most straightforward flat wire for standard wattage builds. Start with 21g if you haven’t used flat wire before – it’s workable without being floppy, wraps cleanly on a 3mm mandrel and gives you an honest read on how flat wire handles.
SS316L only. Ni80 and Kanthal are not TC-compatible. SS316L reads accurately in TC mode on most regulated mods and performs just as well in wattage mode when you switch between devices. The 21g and 22g gauges are the most versatile for TC builds across both RDA and RTA decks.
Flapton. The combination of a flat core and a wrapped outer wire produces more surface area than any other option in the Flatwire UK range. It takes more time to wrap neatly and benefits from careful coil spacing, but the flavour output is noticeably richer than standard flat wire when built well.
Flat Sixty 25g or SS316L 24g. If you’re building at higher ohms to extend battery life – particularly on a single-battery regulated device or a mechanical mod – a thinner gauge gives you more resistance per wrap without sacrificing the flat wire surface area benefit.
Read our how to build vape coils guide before choosing wire. Flat wire rewards builders who already have round wire experience. If you need a refresher on Ohm’s Law before building on a mechanical mod, our Ohm’s Law guide and vape battery safety guide are required reading before you fire anything up.
Ni80 19g or Flapton Ni80 22/38. The 19g requires more effort to bend and wrap, but it hits very low resistance targets in dual coil configurations and produces serious vapour output. Know your build resistance before firing on any unregulated device, and check your battery’s continuous discharge rating against your target resistance before you proceed.
Every spool we stock is genuine Flatwire UK product, sourced through authorised UK distributors only. Their wire is processed and supplied domestically, and we don’t carry grey-market substitutes or rebranded alternatives. What you see is what you get.
Flatwire UK wire is already good value per spool given the 10ft length and the number of builds you get from it. We price fairly and keep an eye on the market so you’re not overpaying. Check our coil wire category for current pricing across all variants.
Orders are dispatched promptly from the UK. Wire spools are small and light, so they ship quickly and arrive well-packaged. Builders don’t want to wait around when a coil has burned out mid-session, and we don’t make them.
Our team vapes every day and builds regularly. We can answer questions about gauge selection, alloy choice, build compatibility and coil techniques because we’ve worked through the same questions ourselves. If you’re unsure which Flatwire UK variant suits your deck or mod, get in touch and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Ni80 is a Nichrome alloy suited to wattage mode builds. It ramps up fast and sits at low resistance. SS316L is a stainless steel alloy that works in both wattage and temperature control mode. If your mod has TC capability and you want one wire that covers both modes, SS316L is the more versatile choice.
Flapton combines a flat core wire with a thinner round wire wrapped around it, similar in principle to a Clapton but built on a flat base. It produces more surface area than standard flat wire, which means more complex flavour. It ramps up slightly slower due to the added mass and takes more care to wrap neatly.
Yes, but only for vapers who understand Ohm’s Law and battery safety. Flat wire builds on mechs can hit very low resistances, particularly with Ni80 19g in dual coil setups. You must know your build resistance, check your battery’s continuous discharge rating and ensure you are operating within a safe margin before using any unregulated device.
If you’re moving from round wire to flat wire for the first time, start with Ni80 21g or SS316L 21g. Both wrap consistently on a 3mm mandrel, are manageable without being too stiff or floppy and give you a solid feel for how flat wire handles before you move to heavier or lighter gauges.
Yes. Flat wire works well in both RDA and RTA build decks. The main consideration in an RTA is coil diameter and available deck space, since some RTA decks are tighter to work in. Lighter gauges – 21g, 22g, 24g and 25g – are generally easier to fit into an RTA than the heavier 19g.
Flat Sixty is a proprietary Flatwire UK alloy blend available in 22g and 25g. It sits between Ni80 and SS316L in character – reliable resistance, solid flavour output and good workability. The 25g is particularly useful when you want higher resistance per wrap, for example on a single-battery device where managing power draw matters.
