Batteries

Most regulated mods and mechanical mods run on external cells, with the 18650 being by far the most common format. The 20700 and 21700 are physically larger, hold more capacity, and suit high-wattage mods that chew through charge quickly. If your device takes a 21700, it will typically accept an 18650 with an adapter sleeve, but you’ll lose some run time.

Buying from a reputable source is not optional here. Counterfeit and rewrapped cells are common on generic marketplaces, and a battery with inaccurate amp ratings is a genuine safety risk. We stock Fogstar, Molicel and Vapcell because their published specs match independently lab-tested results and the cells are genuine. Fogstar in particular is a UK-based brand with strong community trust. Molicel’s P26A and P28A are workhorses for high-drain builds. Vapcell rounds out the range with solid mid-drain options for lower-wattage setups.

Battery Chargers

USB charging is convenient, but relying on it exclusively for external batteries is a habit worth breaking. Most mods charge at 1A or less through the USB port, which is slow and bypasses the protection circuits that a dedicated charger provides. A quality two-bay or four-bay charger monitors each cell independently, stops charging when full, and protects against short circuits, overcharging and reverse polarity.

If you run two batteries in a dual-cell mod, a dedicated charger also lets you rotate cells properly and keep matched pairs together. That matters for battery longevity and safety. We’d recommend at minimum a two-bay charger if you’re using external 18650s or larger cells regularly.

Coils and Coil Wire

These are two different things, and it’s worth being clear on which one you need.

Replacement coils are pre-built coil heads that drop into a specific tank. You buy them by tank compatibility, swap them out every one to two weeks depending on use, and that’s it. Most vapers are here. A typical sub-ohm coil costs £3 to £5, which puts most regular vapers at around £10 to £15 per month on coils alone. Coil wire is for vapers who build their own coils on an RDA, RTA or rebuildable system. Lower resistance wire conducts more power and produces more vapour, but it also demands more from your battery and requires you to understand ohm law before you start. For wire, we lean on Vandy Vape and Wotofo as our go-to picks – both deliver consistent resistance readings across gauges and are genuinely what we use.

Building coils is not a beginner activity. Done wrong, it can damage your device or, in worse cases, create a safety hazard. Vape Cotton

Vape cotton is the wicking material that sits inside a coil and draws e-liquid from your tank to the heating element. On a pre-built replacement coil, the cotton is already installed. On an RDA or RTA, you install it yourself, which means the quality and fit of your cotton directly affects flavour, wicking speed and how often you get a dry hit.

Good cotton is organic, bleach-free and chlorine-free. It wicks quickly, doesn’t impart any taste of its own, and holds enough liquid to keep up with a sub-ohm build at higher wattages. We’ve run Cotton Bacon on heavy sub-ohm builds and found it holds flavour cleanly well into the second week before performance starts to tail off. For lighter builds and MTL atomisers, a thinner strip works better – too much cotton restricts wicking.

Replacement Parts and Glass

Cracked tank glass is one of the most common reasons vapers end up without a working setup. It happens – dropped on a hard floor, knocked off a desk – and if you don’t have a spare, you’re stuck. Picking up a replacement glass when you buy a new tank costs very little and takes two minutes to fit. It’s the kind of purchase you don’t think about until you need it badly.

Beyond glass, the parts worth having on hand include:

• Drip tips and mouthpieces – fit varies by device, and personal preference on bore size and material (resin, Delrin, stainless) is real
• O-rings and seals – lose one of these and your tank leaks; they’re cheap and easy to keep spares of
• Replacement pods for pod kit users, particularly if your current pod is starting to affect flavour

510 Adapters

The 510 thread is the industry standard connection between a tank or atomiser and a mod. Most devices use it, which is why vape hardware is broadly compatible across brands. A 510 adapter comes into play when the connection isn’t quite right – for example, a mod with a recessed 510 pin that doesn’t sit flush with a particular tank, or when you want to use a tank on a squonk mod with a bottom-feed pin.

They’re also useful for pairing a high-end tank with a different mod platform than it was designed for, or for adapting between sizes and thread types on older or niche hardware.

Rebuildables and Vape Tools

Vape tools – tweezers, coil jigs, ceramic tweezers, cutters, screwdrivers and pliers – can be bought as individual items or as a full kit. A complete kit makes sense if you’re building regularly. If you’re an occasional builder or just want something on hand for maintenance, a few individual tools cover most situations.

Worth saying: even vapers who never build their own coils benefit from having a basic screwdriver set and a pair of tweezers. Tanks need disassembling for cleaning, screws strip, and you’ll eventually need to adjust something at the worst possible moment.
