What to Know About E-Liquid Shelf Life

Buying in bulk only makes sense if your stock stays usable. E-liquid does have a shelf life, and knowing how to manage it means your multi-buy orders don’t go to waste.

Most e-liquids carry a best-before date of around one to two years from the manufacture date. The nicotine, PG, VG and flavouring all degrade over time, particularly when exposed to heat, light or air. A bottle stored correctly will generally hit that full two-year window with no noticeable drop in quality.

Storage is straightforward. Keep e-liquid in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. A drawer, cupboard or box away from radiators and windows is fine. You don’t need a fridge, though some vapers do store larger stocks there during summer months. Just make sure bottles are sealed properly before refrigerating to avoid condensation getting into the liquid.

Shake bottles before use if they’ve been sitting for a few weeks, especially if the liquid has separated slightly. This is normal and doesn’t mean the product has gone off.

Pre-filled pods are a slightly different consideration. Sealed pods are generally stable for a year or more when stored correctly, but once a pod is opened or inserted into a device, you’re working within a shorter window. The practical upshot: don’t order more than you’ll go through in six months unless you have proper storage sorted. For most vapers, a two to three month supply is a sensible target for bulk orders.
