Voopoo PnP Coils Explained: PnP vs PnP X and Which Coil You Need

Voopoo PnP Coils Explained

Voopoo’s PnP coil range now spans two separate platforms, several coil families and a wide selection of resistance options. If you are trying to work out whether you need a PnP or PnP X coil, which resistance suits your vaping style, or why a replacement coil has a different code from one you previously used, this guide explains the differences.

Although original PnP and newer PnP X coils both use a convenient push-fit installation, they are different platforms and are not interchangeable. Choosing the correct platform, resistance and wattage range is therefore essential before ordering.

PnP vs PnP X: What Is the Difference?

Original PnP and PnP X are two separate Voopoo coil platforms.

Both use a push-fit installation, allowing the coil to be pressed directly into the base of a compatible pod or tank without threading. However, the coils have different fittings and cannot be used interchangeably.

Original Voopoo PnP is the older and wider-ranging platform. It is used across many established Vinci, Drag, Argus, Navi and V-Series devices, along with compatible PnP pods and tanks.

Voopoo PnP X is the newer platform used by current-generation devices such as the Drag X2, Drag S2, Drag X3, Drag S3, Argus Pro 2, Drag 5 and Drag 6. The PnP X range uses an updated four-layer leak-resistant structure designed to separate the airway, heating zone and air cavity.

A PnP coil will not fit a modern PnP X pod or tank, and a PnP X coil will not fit an original PnP pod or tank.

A Warning About the Older “PnP-X Pod” Name

Some older products, including the Drag X PnP-X Kit and Drag S PnP-X Kit, used a pod called the PnP-X Pod.

Despite the similar name, this older pod belongs to the original PnP platform and accepts original Voopoo PnP coils, including compatible PnP-RBA coils. It does not use the newer PnP X replacement coils.

Voopoo later reused similar wording for its newer PnP X coil platform, which is physically different and not interchangeable with the original PnP system. Always check the full coil code and pod specifications rather than relying on the words “PnP-X” in an older kit name.

How Do I Know Which Voopoo Coil Platform I Need?

The most reliable way to identify the correct platform is to check:

  • The code printed on your existing coil
  • The name printed on the pod or tank
  • The original product packaging
  • The compatibility information in your device manual
  • The specifications on the product page

Original PnP coils normally use individual codes such as:

  • PnP-VM6
  • PnP-VM5
  • PnP-VM1
  • PnP-TW20
  • PnP-DW60
  • PnP-TM2
  • PnP-R1
  • PnP-R2
  • PnP-TR1

Newer PnP X coils are generally identified by the PnP X platform name and resistance, such as PnP X 0.15Ω, 0.20Ω, 0.30Ω or 0.80Ω.

If your device uses the original platform, shop our Voopoo PnP Replacement Coils.

Understanding the Original Voopoo PnP Coil Families

Voopoo expanded the original PnP platform over several generations. This created several coil families with different heating structures, wattage ranges and intended vaping styles.

Coil FamilyMain Vaping StyleWhat It Is Designed For
VM seriesMTL, RDL and DTLThe original mesh range, covering lower-powered vaping through to high-powered DTL performance
TW seriesRDL and DTLLater mesh options designed around thinner 50/50 e-liquids rather than very high-VG vape juice
DW seriesMTL and loose MTLLower-powered mesh options for a more restricted draw
TM and TR seriesMTLLower-powered coils for tighter mouth-to-lung vaping
M seriesRDL and DTLEarlier original-PnP mesh options
R and C seriesMTLEarlier regular and ceramic options for lower-powered vaping
PnP-RBARebuildable MTL / RDLA rebuildable option intended for experienced users

Some PnP codes belong to earlier generations of the platform but remain available and compatible with selected devices. Voopoo expanded the range over time rather than replacing every older coil with a direct successor.

Coils with the same resistance are not necessarily identical. They may use different heating structures, wattage ranges, wicking openings and intended vaping styles.

For example, several original PnP coils use a resistance of 0.60Ω, but the PnP-VM4, PnP-M2, PnP-TM1 and PnP-DW60 have different intended uses and recommended power ranges.

When comparing coils, check the complete coil code, resistance, recommended wattage and vaping style rather than choosing by resistance alone.

Which Voopoo PnP Coil Is Best for MTL Vaping?

Mouth-to-lung vaping involves drawing vapour into the mouth before inhaling, similar to the technique commonly used when smoking a cigarette.

MTL vaping generally works best with higher-resistance coils, lower wattages, restricted airflow and 50/50 e-liquids.

Popular original PnP options include:

  • PnP-TR1 1.20Ω – 10–15W: a tight, low-powered MTL vape suited to 50/50 e-liquid and nic salts.
  • PnP-R2 1.0Ω – 10–15W: a traditional MTL draw with discreet vapour production.
  • PnP-R1 0.80Ω – 12–18W: a balanced MTL option with slightly more warmth and vapour.
  • PnP-TM2 0.80Ω – 12–18W: a mesh MTL option suited to 50/50 e-liquid and nic salts.
  • PnP-TM1 0.60Ω – 20–25W: a warmer and more open MTL vape.
  • PnP-DW60 0.60Ω – 18–23W: suitable for a loose MTL or gentle restricted direct-to-lung inhale.

Voopoo also lists the PnP-DW80 0.80Ω coil, rated at 12–16W for MTL vaping. Availability varies, so check whether this option is currently stocked before ordering.

On the newer PnP X platform, the 0.60Ω, 0.80Ω and 1.0Ω coils cover the MTL and restricted end of the range. Legion of Vapers currently stocks the 0.60Ω and 0.80Ω PnP X options.

Which Voopoo PnP Coil Is Best for RDL or DTL Vaping?

Restricted direct-to-lung vaping provides a more open inhale than MTL while retaining some airflow restriction. Direct-to-lung vaping uses a wider airflow and involves inhaling vapour directly into the lungs.

Lower-resistance coils generally operate at higher wattages and produce more vapour.

Popular original PnP options include:

  • PnP-VM1 0.30Ω – 32–40W: a balanced RDL or lighter DTL option with strong flavour and vapour.
  • PnP-TW30 0.30Ω – 28–36W: a controlled RDL option designed around thinner 50/50 e-liquid.
  • PnP-VM3 0.45Ω – 25–35W: a warmer restricted draw with balanced flavour and vapour.
  • PnP-VM5 0.20Ω – 40–60W: a full DTL coil designed for substantial vapour production.
  • PnP-TW20 0.20Ω – 40–55W: a DTL option designed for thinner 50/50 e-liquid rather than very high-VG vape juice.
  • PnP-VM6 0.15Ω – 60–80W: the highest-powered original PnP option, designed for a warm DTL vape and maximum vapour production.
  • PnP-TW15 0.15Ω – 55–70W: a high-powered DTL coil designed around thinner e-liquid.

The VM5 and VM6 generally suit higher-VG e-liquids and low nicotine strengths. The TW range also operates at moderate to high wattages but is designed around thinner 50/50 e-liquid, demonstrating why coil construction matters as much as resistance.

Because the TW15 and TW20 operate at higher wattages and produce substantial amounts of vapour, use low nicotine strengths and avoid pairing them with high-strength nic salts.

On the newer PnP X platform, the 0.15Ω and 0.20Ω coils cover high-powered DTL vaping, while the 0.30Ω and 0.45Ω options provide more restricted DTL and RDL performance.

Voopoo PnP and PnP X Device Compatibility

The table below provides a general platform guide. Compatibility can depend on the particular pod, cartridge or tank fitted to the device, and not every resistance is suitable for every compatible product.

“Selected coils” means the device or tank belongs to that platform, but the suitable resistance range can still depend on the fitted pod, cartridge or tank and the device’s available wattage.

For example, a lower-powered device may physically use original PnP coils but may not provide enough power for a PnP-VM6 rated at 60–80W. Always check the supported resistance and wattage range for your particular setup before ordering.

For a complete breakdown of the original range, including all 17 options currently available from Legion of Vapers, visit our Voopoo PnP Replacement Coils page.

If your device uses the newer platform, compare the available resistances on our Voopoo PnP X Replacement Coils page.

Can You Use Nic Salts With Voopoo PnP Coils?

Yes, selected Voopoo PnP and PnP X coils can be used with nic salt e-liquids.

Nic salts generally work best with higher-resistance coils operating at lower wattages, particularly when paired with a restricted MTL draw.

Suitable original PnP options include:

  • PnP-TR1 1.20Ω
  • PnP-R2 1.0Ω
  • PnP-R1 0.80Ω
  • PnP-TM2 0.80Ω
  • PnP-TM1 0.60Ω
  • PnP-DW60 0.60Ω

Selected 0.45Ω and 0.60Ω coils may also work with lower-strength nic salts, depending on the device, wattage and airflow.

On PnP X, the 0.60Ω, 0.80Ω and 1.0Ω options are the most suitable for nic salts and 50/50 e-liquids.

Avoid using high-strength nic salts with low-resistance, high-powered DTL coils. These coils produce considerably more vapour per puff and can deliver much more nicotine than a lower-powered MTL setup.

How to Prime a Voopoo PnP Coil

Before installing a new coil:

  1. Apply a few drops of e-liquid directly to the visible cotton openings.
  2. Push the coil firmly into the base of the compatible pod or tank.
  3. Fill the pod or tank with e-liquid.
  4. Leave the device standing for approximately 5–10 minutes.
  5. Begin at the lower end of the recommended wattage range.
  6. Gradually increase the power until you reach your preferred flavour and vapour level.

Allowing the cotton to become fully saturated before vaping helps reduce the risk of a dry or burnt hit when the coil is first used.

How Long Do Voopoo PnP Coils Last?

There is no fixed lifespan for a Voopoo PnP or PnP X coil.

Many users replace a coil after roughly one to two weeks, but the actual lifespan depends on:

  • How frequently you vape
  • The wattage used
  • The sweetness of the e-liquid
  • The VG/PG ratio
  • Airflow settings
  • How well the coil was primed
  • Whether the pod or tank is allowed to run low on e-liquid

Sweetened and dessert-style e-liquids can leave more residue on the heating element and may shorten coil life compared with simpler fruit or menthol flavours.

Replace the coil when:

  • Flavour becomes noticeably weaker
  • Vapour production decreases
  • The e-liquid develops a burnt or unpleasant taste
  • The coil produces persistent gurgling or flooding
  • The cotton appears heavily darkened
  • The coil no longer performs correctly within its recommended wattage range

What Is the Voopoo PnP-RBA?

Alongside its prebuilt replacement coils, Voopoo also produced the PnP-RBA for experienced users who prefer to install and wick their own builds.

The PnP-RBA belongs to the original PnP platform and is compatible with selected original-PnP pods and devices. It allows experienced users to replace the wire and cotton rather than disposing of a complete prebuilt coil.

Rebuilding requires an understanding of coil resistance, correct wicking and battery safety. The PnP-RBA is therefore intended for experienced users rather than beginners.
