If you want a draw that feels like a cigarette, an MTL tank is where to start. Mouth-to-lung vaping means pulling vapour into your mouth first, then inhaling it into your lungs, exactly the same technique you used when smoking. MTL vape tanks are built around that style: restricted airflow, tighter draw, cooler vapour and coils that run at higher resistance and lower wattage. You’ll find tanks here from Aspire, GeekVape, Vapefly, Innokin, HellVape, Voopoo and more, covering every budget from a solid first tank to a step-up for experienced vapers. New customers get 5% off their first order, and delivery is free on orders over £40.MTL tanks remain one of the most popular categories in UK vaping because they combine cigarette-like satisfaction with lower running costs and better flavour clarity than sub-ohm setups.

Getting the liquid right makes a significant difference to how your MTL tank performs. The coils are narrower and the wicks are tighter than in a sub-ohm setup, so not every liquid works equally well.
50/50 PG/VG liquids are the most reliable choice. The higher PG content flows easily through narrow wicks, reduces the risk of dry hits and carries flavour exceptionally well. If you are new to MTL vaping, a quality 50/50 is the safest starting point. Browse our best 50/50 vape juice picks for recommendations.
Nic salts work very well in MTL tanks, particularly for heavier ex-smokers. Salt nicotine is smoother at higher strengths, so you can use up to 20 mg/ml (the UK legal limit for nicotine-containing e-liquid) without the harsh throat hit you’d get from freebase at the same concentration. For anyone who smoked more than ten cigarettes a day, nic salts at 10-20 mg/ml are often the most effective option for managing cravings. Read more in our nic salts vs freebase guide.
Freebase nicotine at 12-18 mg/ml suits moderate users who prefer a more pronounced throat hit. It works well in 50/50 liquids and is widely available. Freebase at 3-6 mg/ml tends to underdeliver on cravings for most switchers, so be honest about where your nicotine needs sit.
High-VG shortfills are not recommended for MTL coils. A 70/30 or 80/20 VG-heavy liquid is too thick for the narrow wicks found in most MTL tanks. It clogs the cotton, causes dry hits and burns out coils faster. Stick to 50/50 or max 60/40 VG blends for MTL use.

This is the comparison most vapers want before they buy, and most retailers skip it. Here is what running an MTL tank setup actually costs week to week.
Liquid consumption: MTL vapers typically use between 2 and 4ml of e-liquid per day. At the lower end, that is roughly 14-28ml per week. A 10ml 50/50 nic salt costs around £1-3 in the UK, so a realistic weekly liquid spend sits at £3-6 for most MTL users. Compare that to a sub-ohm setup, where 5-10ml per day can push weekly liquid costs to £7-15 or more.
Coil replacement: MTL coils running at higher resistance on a 50/50 liquid typically last 2-4 weeks. We’ve run Aspire Nautilus coils for three weeks on a 50/50 liquid before flavour drops noticeably. At roughly £2-3 per coil, that adds up to under £6 per month in most cases.
Disposable comparison: A single-use disposable costs £4-6 and delivers around 600 puffs. A regular MTL vaper getting through 150-200 puffs per day would spend £20-25 per week on disposables. Even a modestly priced MTL tank setup cuts that figure dramatically within the first month.

Pod kits and MTL tanks often serve the same vaping style, but they are not the same thing. Understanding the difference helps you choose the right setup.
Pod kits are sealed or semi-sealed systems. You replace the whole pod, or swap a coil into a fixed pod shell. They are compact, low-maintenance and ideal for portability. If you want something to carry in your pocket and use with minimal fuss, a pod kit does that well.
MTL tanks give you more flexibility. You can:
Coil life on MTL tanks often outlasts pod coils, partly because of the lower wattage and partly because 50/50 liquids are kinder to cotton than thicker VG blends. That said, if portability is your main priority and you prefer a smaller carry, a pod kit is still a strong choice.

If you already own a box mod and are adding an MTL tank, a few things are worth checking before you buy.
Wattage range: MTL tanks run best at 8-25W. If your mod can output in that range on a variable wattage setting, you are compatible. Most regulated mods start well below 25W, so this is rarely a problem.
510 connector: The vast majority of MTL tanks use a standard 510 thread. As long as your mod has a 510 connection, which almost all box mods do, the tank will fit.
Battery size: Because MTL tanks draw so little power, single-battery mods and compact devices work perfectly well. You do not need a dual-18650 mod to run an MTL tank efficiently. A small, single-cell device is a practical pairing and keeps the whole setup portable.
Regulated vs mechanical: Always use MTL tanks on a regulated mod. Mechanical mods without chip protection are not suitable for general use and carry safety risks if used incorrectly.
For help choosing a compatible device, our best MTL vape kits guide covers recommended pairings. The beginners guide to vaping is useful if you are new to the hardware side.
Coil choice has a direct impact on flavour, coil life and how your liquid performs. Getting it right from the start saves you from dry hits and premature burnout.
Resistance range: MTL coils sit between 0.6Ω and 2.0Ω. Higher resistance (1.0Ω and above) runs cooler, suits nic salts and 50/50 liquids well and tends to last longer. Lower MTL resistance (0.6-0.8Ω) runs slightly warmer, closer to a restricted direct-to-lung style, and may suit vapers who want a warmer hit.
Mesh vs regular coils:
Priming your coil: Always prime a new coil before you vape. Add a few drops of e-liquid directly onto the exposed cotton, fill the tank, then wait five minutes before use. Firing a dry coil burns the wick immediately and the coil is unlikely to recover. Full instructions are in our how to prime a vape coil guide.

We don’t list brands simply because they’re well-known. Every brand in our MTL tank range is here because we’ve used the hardware and it earns its place.
Aspire is stocked because the Nautilus range has been a dependable MTL workhorse for years. The coils are easy to find, the draw is consistently tight and the tanks hold up well at low wattage. A strong choice for anyone switching from cigarettes.
GeekVape makes MTL tanks that balance build quality with accessibility. The airflow adjustment is precise, the tanks feel robust in hand and the coil range is broad enough to suit different preferences.
Vapefly produces some of the best value MTL tanks available. The Brunhilde and Galaxies ranges offer genuine flavour performance at a price point that doesn’t require much justification.
Innokin has been building reliable MTL hardware for over a decade. The Zenith range in particular is frequently recommended for switchers because it is genuinely easy to use, the coils last well and it is forgiving if you’re still learning how to prime and maintain a tank.
HellVape brings a more premium edge to MTL. Their tanks suit vapers who already know what they like and want tighter engineering tolerances and more airflow control.
Voopoo covers MTL with a range of tanks that pair neatly with their popular mod line. Consistent quality and a reliable coil ecosystem make them a practical option if you’re already using Voopoo hardware.
